Ashe!

Voudou. Santeria.

The very names conjure up malevolent images of people killing animals for sport and using dolls to torture enemies. Small wonder, since this is pretty much what Hollywood has been portraying of these beautifully ecstatic afro-caribbean religions for years.

Nowadays, thankfully, these misunderstood paths are now getting a little good press, and there are a variety of books and websites dedicated to teaching people about serving the loa and orisha with respect and reverence.

This site's intent is to gather as much publically available information about the AfroCaribbean traditions as possible, with the hope that those who are seeking, or those who have been called by the loa/orisha to serve, can sift through the various ideas and opinions of people that care enough to try to educate and help through the dissemination of potentially helpful information.

As with anything, there are a great many people out there who serve that have varied opinions on how, where, and who can serve. There are many traditions out there, and many ways to serve - but within certain traditions there are very strict rules. What is usually accepted within one Honfourt or Ile, might be completely out of the question in another.

This being said, I am a 36 year old white woman who has been searching and doing her best to serve spirit since 1994. There are many people that take umbrage with this, but please let me make this clear - I mean no disrespect to the tradition, the loa, the orisha, or the revered elders out there that have fought tooth and nail to serve under severely negative external scrutiny. It is not my intention to co-opt the traditions and beliefs of this path in order to gain anything material. I merely wish to serve in the way spirit wishes me to serve, and to gain the insight and guidance of those who have passed before me. I've written up a little page of sorts for those who are interested in my own personal path and how I define it.

I will do my best throughout this site to be as non-biased as humanly possible. It is my firm belief that it is through our own pride that we lose the connection and degrade the messages from spirit when we want it to sound a little more like something we'd like to hear. If you find that I'm losing the message or distorting it somehow, please let me know. I'm very receptive to constructive criticism.

I would also be honored to get the input of the revered elders out there who would choose to help enlighten the seekers on the internet through the dispensing of their own experiences, knowledge and intimate bond with spirit. This site is meant to be as all inclusive as possible on this topic, so any helpful points of view will most definitely be noted and either linked to, or I'll be happy to add them here. There is much misinformation on the internet, and as with any oral tradition - there are just some things that you won't learn unless you become an initiate yourself. Some knowledge is meant to be learned over a period of time, from elders that keep with tradition

Things are in their infancy here, but I'm always adding to and building links to other helpful sources of information. Updates will hopefully be frequent, and hopefully soon there will be a substantial wealth of knowledge to look through.

Thank you for visiting.

Aye Bobo!
