Project
Vote Smart began as a simple research project in 1990. Would citizens
defend themselves from the mudslinging, issueless tactics used by political
candidates to manipulate them? Since then, hundreds of volunteers and student
interns have labored to provide their fellow citizens with the most crucial
tool to citizens in a democracy: abundant, relevant information on those
who govern us, or wish to replace those who already do.
NorthWest
Feminist Anti-Censorship Taskforce "The United States is going through
a Moral Panic, with sexually explicit media, and many other forms of sexual
information and/or minority practices and lifestyles under attack. As we
continue through this time of enormous cultural stress and change, many
ideas, groups, and lifestyles are seen as a threat to the status quo. Attacks
on media, ideas, and individuals or groups are being used to gain political
power, raise money, and further the fame and fortune of those leading the
attacks. We are also committed to challenging the idea that political action
is hard, boring work. Very few things are as fun and exciting as social
change, and if you are concerned about the free flow of information, and
about social justice, we hope you will consider joining us."

ENEMIES
of Free Speech
The
American Family Association, Inc. (formerly the National Federation
for Decency) is proud of these accomplishments:
ABC
lost about $1million in ad revenues per episode of NYPD Blue because of
AFA efforts.
The Southland
Corporation, owners and franchisers of the 7-Eleven convenience store chain,
along with 30,000 other convenience stores pulled porn magazines from shelves
after intensive boycotting and picketing by AFA.
Pepsi pulled
Madonna's "sacrilegious" ad and canceled sponsorship of her world tour
following efforts led by AFA.
They promoted
successful boycotts of several national advertisers because they were leading
sponsors of TV sex, violence and profanity. Because of the boycotts, some
companies - including Burger King, Clorox and S. C. Johnson - have changed
their advertising policies.
The
Christian Coalition
Supported
an amendment to prohibit the use of federal taxpayers funds for any procedure
that experiments with human fetal tissue, cells or organs obtained from
an embryo or fetus during or after an induced abortion.
(the question
I have here is, if it's already dead, why not do test and experiments on
it so that it hasn't died in vain?)
Supported an
amendment prohibiting funding for President Clinton's Executive Order 13087,
which circumvented Congressional authority and created a new law requiring
affirmative action policies for "sexual orientation" in the federal government.
"Because "sexual orientation" is not defined, it could include ALL types
of alternative sexual lifestyles, such as homosexuality, bisexuality, transsexuality.
bestiality and even pedophilia."
