Look at all the people
walking silently around
chattering and shouting out
but no-one makes a sound
quietly they suffer
in the cage they built themselves
seeing just the pain and loneliness
of their lives but who could guess

The emptiness inside us all
could fill a thousand rooms
the hurting and the helplessness
we fear impending doom
it wraps us in it's fingers
and closes on our souls
taking all our courage
and the need to keep us whole

Some of them have nothing
but the drive to make them rich
the desire for a family
the need to scratch the itch
the others cast themselves
into the pit of altered states
thinking that a chemical
will open up the gates

Take a second look around
and then you'll really see
all the fears and ruined dreams
that live within humanity
it's true we bleed when cut upon
we ache for love and peace
we all just need a hand to hold
but only when we truly see
