There's a wall 
between us now 
understandable and 
uncomfortable 
but still painful 
and awkward 

Most of all 
I miss our connection 
the spark between us 
that lit up the cold, 
dark nights 

We are on 
different paths 
going to the same place 
I think 
and hopefully 
someday 
the walls will come down 
and we will be able to relate 
soul to soul 
again 

Maybe not the same 
as we once did 
but in a different 
hopefully, closer 
and less guarded way 

True friends 
heart to heart 
keeping nothing 
from each other 
this time 'round 

I miss you 
your presence 
the feeling I got 
when you were near 
close enough 
to reach out and touch 

I miss your voice 
the timbre and tone 
as you spoke softly 
to me while we smiled 
together discussing
all life's little 
quirks and quandries 

I know that these words 
will probably not help 
to quell the unease
that you feel 
but they needed to be said 
I needed to voice my emotions 

And this is the only way 
that I knew to 
get my emotions 
out to you 
so that you 
could know my heart.
