Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than going to a garage makes you a car.
- Laurence J. Peter

One of the things that cuts into my thoughts, disrupting my train of thought on many an occasion is the concept of people using various religions for their own means and gains. While I do see myself as a fairly religious person, I don't use it to stab or poke through other people's visions, ideas, or lives. One thing I've been noticing lately is the notion that religious "scripture" should be used as a guide to everything in life. Especially when it's "interpreted correctly" by the "learned scholars" of that particular religion. Whatever happened to personal interpretation? When one person decides to take the mantle of religious learning and use it for their own benefit, I see this as abuse of knowledge. Many have used their interpretations to instigate hate crimes, wars, or worse yet, inquisitions where everybody is a heretic unless you "let go, and let God".

Don't get me wrong...I'm not against God...It's most of his followers that rankle me. The true Christians I've met are decent, loving and helpful people. They don't spend their apparently boring lives trying to control everything around them. They just try to do right by their own standards and don't attempt to force those standards on anyone else. Those that obfuscate themselves with the cloak of religion, thinking that people will see them as "pillars of the community" use this as a crutch to help them gain a sort of dominance over their fellow man. These are the types of people that bomb abortion clinics, kill abortion doctors (since when was vengeance not God's, in their eyes?), and highly tout family values, while at the same time beating their wives for speaking out of turn.

In short, my body and my life are my own, to do with as I damn well please. I've always liked doing things without people looking over my shoulder, and I wish it were still that way, but until the nosy, busybodied Mrs. Kravitz's of this world get their lives back on track so they can stop living vicariously through everybody else around them, I shall know no peace from these dogs that seek to take my freedom of thought and deed. Damn them all...
