Ok...now _I_, a NONsmoker, am officially disgusted by all the current smoking controversy. What did it for me, you ask? I think it was the fact that a state jury in San Francisco ordered the Philip Morris Companies to pay $51.5 million to a woman that stated that her inoperable lung cancer was caused by more than 35 years of smoking. Most of them were apparently Phillip Morris brand. How much more ridiculous can this country get? Wasn't it in the early sixties that the Surgeon General came out with the "Smoking Cigarettes can be dangerous to your health" notices? Correct me if I'm wrong...but if you're aware that it's dangerous, then aren't you responsible for your own health? 

She had plenty of fucking notice, if you ask me, so what's her problem? She rolled the dice, moved her mice, and now she has lung cancer. Boo fucking hoo...In my opinion, if you know the risk, and you still play the game, you deserve what happens to you. But wait...as american, bleeding heart liberals we have to protect people from themselves...even if it's detrimental to the rest of us...and even if we DON'T WANT to be protected. Who let this case get as far as it did? The expenses for the various court cases is OUR money as taxpayers that's being used for this bullshit...doesn't anybody realize this yet? I'm getting really tired of seeing greedy, grabass lawyers taking down corporations for dumb shit like this. If they have to go down, can't it be for something substantial? Because of awards like this, all my friends that smoke are going to be penalized HEAVILY. (like cigarettes weren't outrageously expensive to begin with) 

I don't want smoking banned...I'm happy with small smoking sections. Just as long as I have a place to get away from it, I'm ok. I don't want people to stop...It's their perogative to kill themselves slowly. I'm not the kind of neo-nazi non-smoker that rushes up to people and grabs cigarettes out of the mouths of others and angrily stomps them on the ground, only to subject them to a tirade about how their "killing themselves". It's none of my damn business...(and, it's assault and battery, boys and girls) If I don't like it, I'll go someplace else. Why does everybody else have a problem with this? People want to dictate morals and behaviour to everybody around them, because what other people do sometimes makes them uncomfortable. I wish they'd just get over themselves. Another stupid conclusion that people have come to is that second hand smoke is MUCH more dangerous than actually smoking the cancer stick themselves. What child of two PHD's dreamed this up? I've never heard anything so outlandish...Basic medicine disproves this "theory".

I have a family member that found out that they have Emphysema, and they're pretty casual about it. After all, they've known that this could possibly happen all along, and there's really nothing they can do about it now except to stop smoking. They're not shaking their fist at the tobacco growers union, or Phillip Morris. It's just a fact of life to them. Frankly, I'm glad I never started...I tried a couple of times when I was a kid, but I couldn't stomach it. It's a foul habit, and people that smoke tend to smell like they're dying to me. (which is why I've never been able to date smokers). I don't judge people that do it. I just move away when they light up, no big deal. 

I don't want to continue beating a dead horse, but if you don't like it...you can ALWAYS go AWAY. It's YOUR choice. Nobody's forcing you to stay and inhale...think about it...
