Tanya Huff Tanya Huff is a brilliant writer that I discovered via a close friend a couple of years ago. I find it hard to put any of these books down whenever I pick them back up to read them again, and they just keep getting better. The characters are colorful and very likeable, and she puts them in the most interesting situations. Highly entertaining and sometimes thought provoking, she knits together a great set of stories. |

Vampires I'm an avid reader of stories featuring the supernatural, but I really seem to have this hard-on for Vampire stories. It's the entire erotic aspect of the creature that endears me to the subject. I never could get into those swashbuckling bodice rippers that I see so many romantic souls reading eagerly as they stand in the checkout line at the supermarket, or wait for the receptionist at the dentist to call them back so the doctor can "see them now", so I guess this is how I contribute to my own erotic fantasies. Fabio doesn't do it for me, but these dark angels really "pluck my strings" if you get my meaning....I'm also pretty keen on blood and violence in general, when it's in a movie or book...in real life, violence is pretty unentertaining, and rather boring. I highly recommend these books to anybody who is mystified by the entire Vampire scene. They're very imaginative and highly amusing at times. |

P.N. Elrod I picked up the first book in The Vampire Files a couple of years ago, and I've been following the series ever since. P.N. Elrod has a great flair for the old crime novel featuring the wily, spry Private Detective. The character development and the stories are very pulp, and I'm highly appreciative of this series for this. Reminds me a bit of the old Lovecraft-ian movie Cast a Deadly Spell... Bloodlist
- Book One in The Vampire Files The first book in The Vampire Files introduces our hero, Jack Fleming - Private Eye, fledgeling vampire. The Vampire Speaks! As Nosferatu go, I'm basically a nice guy. Sure, I need a little blood now and then, but I never meant to hurt anyone. Too bad some people don't feel the same about me. Now I've got a bunch of crazy vampire-hunters on my trail, armed with crosses, silver bullets, and sharp wooden stakes. How did they find out about me? Why are they - pardon the expression - out for my blood? I don't know, but I'm going to get some answers even if it kills me... Again. |

When the sun goes down, My day begins... As a vampire, I have a number of handy skills - I can hypnotize mortals, walk through walls, and shrug off bullets like insults. The one thing I haven't been able to manage, so far, is to find the woman who made me what I am. Until now. Maybe. Her trail has led me to the palatial estate of a wealthy widow - and a two-hundred-year-old gigolo with a taste for young blood. He claims not to know where my long-lost lady is - or who is trying to kill me - but then again, you can never trust a vampire. I should know. |
|
Critic by Night! I'm a vampire, not an artist, but I know what I like. And I don't like murder. So when the career of a talented young artist is fatally cut short, I know I won't sleep easey in my coffin until I find the killer. But the world of high art - with its big money, bigger egos, and expensive forgeries - makes even bloodsucking seem simple. And safer. Dead artists can live forever. An undead detective may not be so lucky... Other books in The Vampire Files that I haven't reveiwed yet: Blood
on the Water - I read this a while back, and I'm still rooting around
for my copy. |

Although not really in The Vampire Files, this book is an account of Jonathan Barrett, the vampire that Detective Jack Fleming runs into in the third book of the series. It details his life before the "kiss" and his coping with his undead state afterwards. |
|
From the back cover: A young upstart, Jonathan Barrett is sent to London in 1773 for his college education. There he meets Nora Jones, and unearthly beauty whose lovemaking talents entrance him - even as she drinks his blood during their nightly trysts... Forced by impending war to return to America, Jonathan stands ready to spill his blood for his country. But Nora's kiss has left him craving the blood of others - for all time... Other Books by P.N. Elrod about Johnathan Barrett: |

Other Vampire Books by P.N. Elrod : Keeper
of the King - by Nigel Bennett and P.N. Elrod. It looks pretty interesting,
so I'm going to have to keep an eye out for it. |

Other books with a Vampire tinge:
From the Back Cover: "In this powerful and elegant story set in a future Earth very different from our own, a new kind of human has evolved to challenge the dominion of Homo Sapiens. This new breed is stronger, smarter, and far more beautiful than their parent race, and are endowed with psychic as well as physical gifts. They are destinged to supplant humanity as we know it, but humanity won't die without a struggle." It is a beautiful story, and I highly recommend running out and getting a copy straightaway. The size of this tome is rather daunting, but it's worth the wrist cramps you'll get from holding it up. I've been able to find a copy of The Enchantments of Flesh and Spirit, but haven't seen the others. I'm going to snag 'em when I see 'em, but for now, the "omnibus" as it were, is available in almost any bookstore. |
| Henry sets out to find the errant childer and runs into Vicki. The three of them join forces, albeit unwillingly, to solve this dreadful murder spree... |
